So today I was eating breakfast at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants.  They have the best “huevos ala Mexicana” which is basically Mexican Eggs.  Scrambled eggs full of diced onions, jalapeños, tomatoes, and of course cilantro.  Put it on a corn tortilla, top it with salsa and you are definitely going to enjoy your tasty and healthy breakfast!

Well, today was different, it was a special day!

A family with three generations of women came in to eat breakfast, the three girls (I guess I should say ladies for two of them) were the Grandma, the Mother and the daughter.  Three generations, all wearing their pink, walking for a cure garb.  It was really cool to see the whole family getting involved!

The Grandma was a Cancer Survivor, she had battled breast cancer and won…  Definitely a tough cookie!

Well, I was really impressed with their family, especially how supportive they all were of their Grandma.  I lost all my grandparents by the time I was 4 years old, so never really got to enjoy a relationship with them - I really wish I had been able to.

After finishing breakfast and getting the bill taken care of, I walked over to their table and asked if she was a survivor, if she had previously had cancer.  Her answer was yes…

I figured she was, but wanted to break the ice and open up a line of conversation.  I then told her that I was proud of her for surviving that experience and wanted to thank her for continuing to support such a great cause.

I then placed enough money to buy her anything on the menu and told her that I wanted to buy her breakfast.  She looked up at me like I was a little crazy, but I could tell she was grateful.

More than anything, it was a nice thing to do and it really made me feel good on the inside.  Doing good things can be as simple as that - her whole family was surprised and they all thanked me.

Bottom line, it made my day better - it isn’t over yet but it sure feels good to do something nice for someone!  Hopefully she will tell that story to her other survivor friends and especially to her friends that are battling breast cancer.  They are not alone - hopefully they have a good family like this one did, and even if they don’t - they always have the random acts of kindness that we can all partake in!

So make this day special, do something nice for someone…

You will reap the benefits in dividends!
