Kerala food is very specific to its region and their food is unique. According to tradition their dishes are served on a green banana leaf. For special occasions or festive events the people of Karela to this do still utilize the banana leaf to serve food on. This frames the meal much like painting in a frame and really sets the tone for the meal.
Coconuts are abundant in this region of India and because of this are added to many of their dishes. The flavor this brings to the palette is a touch of sweetness which does well to smooth down and offset the spiciness.
As with many of the other regions in India, rice is part of their diet and is considered to be one of their staples.
